The miraculous part is that all 2060 survived not just one but two battles and they credit their faith and protection to what their mothers taught them: "Our Mothers Knew It". This painting is celebrating these amazing women who were at home practicing their faith and praying fervently for their boys. This story has become very personal to me. I experienced the amazing power in fervent prayer as my own son was miraculously healed.

This work is based on the parable of the Ten Virgins as told by Christ in Matthew 25 in the New Testament. I used my high school students as models and then did many light studies with oil lamps. I also researched the architecture of ancient Jerusalem as well as clothing to create a scene authentic to the time.

And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

This work is based on the parable of the Ten Virgins as told by Christ in Matthew 25 in the New Testament. I used my high school students as models and then did many light studies with oil lamps. I also researched the architecture of ancient Jerusalem as well as clothing to create a scene authentic to the time.
